9月13日(日) ─「香港記者遊行 抗議疆官誣陷」遊行
13 Sept (Sun) – Protest march on Liaison Office
We are alarmed to heard that the Xinjiang authorities used force and violence to prevent journalists and media workers reporting on matters of major public interest in Urumqi.
Three Hong Kong TV journalists covering the protest were were kicked, punched, shoved to the ground handcuffed by police and detained for about three hours. The police also pointed a gun at one journalist to compel him to adhere to their orders.
However, the investigation by Xinjiang authorities blamed the three Hong Kong journalists for inciting unrest in the troubled city of Urumqi last Friday.
We condemned the investigation. The journalists were conducting legal reporting work on that day, and the allegation of inciting public disorder by the relevant Xinjiang authorities is wholly a fabrication.
To show our support to our colleagues, we will organise a march on Sunday to voice our anger, and demand an apology from Xinjiang over arrests and beatings. We hope you will spare some time to join the march and dress in black that day.
Detail of the march:
Date: 13th September (sunday)
Time: 1:00PM
Route: Western District Police Station -> Western Street -> Connaught Road West -> Liaison Office of Centre Government (we would tie red ribbons to the gates of the liaison office and walk around in a circle )
Dress Code: Black
