HKJA grateful for support following unreasonable dismissal of chair, reiterates commitment to press freedom and union rights

The HKJA has received an outpouring of support and solidarity from across Hong Kong and around the world after announcing the unreasonable dismissal of its new chair Selina Cheng last Wednesday. The HKJA would like to extend its gratitude to both local and international media and other institutions for their attention on this matter. We are especially grateful to all journalist unions, press freedom groups and foreign correspondents’ clubs that stood with the HKJA during this difficult time.

The freedom to form and join trade unions is protected by Hong Kong’s Employment Ordinance and Article 27 of the city’s Basic Law, which also protects the freedom of the press. The HKJA will continue to advocate for and defend these rights on behalf of all journalists working in Hong Kong.

Due to difficulties fundraising in recent years, the HKJA has been operating on extremely limited funds, and welcomes donations from those who wish to support the association’s work: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/HZFHYATPN9VK2
